The Western Nugget is a documented mineral property located in the Winston mining district of Broadwater County, Montana.
Featuring an annually flowing spring-fed creek, substantial mine spill reserves, underground workings from the 1970s, and a secluded location with exquisite views.
Also known as the August Rust Mine, The Western Nugget was originally discovered in 1977.
Two cross-cut adits were driven into the NW trending deposit during early production.
In 1985 the mine was sold to Gulf Titanium Ltd. of British Columbia for Titanium exploration.
Production and exploration continued until 1990 when the company seemingly moved all interests to Canada.
The deposit is primarily cretaceous volcanic rock, with mineral intrusions of limonite, quarts, and galena.
Unfortunately, all records from the Bureau of Mines regarding development were lost upon government defunding in 1993.
- Primary lode workings consist of two caved crosscut adits from the original development. The top and larger of the adits are estimated to have been driven over twelve hundred feet into the deposit. With the lower adit seemingly a prospect, with estimated underground workings of 300'-to-500' feet on a single level drift.
- Any underground exploration will require overburden in the estimated amount of 10-20 yards removed from the portal faces.
- Estimated Hardrock deposit values are 0.85-to-1.9 opt Au(Gold), 3.2-to-12.00 opt Ag (Silver), base metals, and rare earth elements in trace amounts.
A substantial mine dump over 0.75 acres is located on the upper adit portal alone.
An estimated combined amount of 2000 yards of a mineralized spill is located on the property.
Mine spill is comprised of the local volcanic host rock and low-to-mid-grade ore.
With no mill onsite, only the highest-grade material was shipped to local refineries of the age.
Located on a maintained dirt road, accessible by any higher clearance vehicle during the warmer months.
Accessible by Snowmobile in the Winter Months.
Pole Creek runs through the claim, with over six hundred feet of accessible waterway, the creek is available for Gold panning, and recreational use.
Small flood Gold deposits are possible in the waterway, though the primary Gold deposits are lode veins northeast of the Creek Bed.
A large staging area is available for multiple campers and vehicles. Secondary campsites are located near the creek edge in the heavily wooded valley.
Access to the mine is via a maintained dirt road, suitable for any 4x4 vehicle during the warmer months.
Helena Montana is located within a 30-minute drive of the mine, and the smaller town of Winston, MT within 15 minutes.
The Western Nugget mine is available to the individual enthusiast and ready for an established mining company.
