The Golden Goose is a largely undocumented mineral property, located in the Beaver Creek mining district of Broadwater County, Montana.
Featuring yearlong water flow from a spring-fed creek, substantial terrace gravel deposits, old workings from a timbered drift mine, and excellent access.
Past production history shows the area worked in the early 1850s through the 1960s, with multiple patented mining claims established on the upper hillside. Interestingly, the founding mining company proceeded to develop hydraulic cuts into the lower valley, without any production record or additional claims filed.
During the 1960s the mine lay abandoned, with the last work prior to WW2. At this time, an individual or company proceeded to develop an exploratory drift tunnel into the terrace gravels of the lower valley. The drift tunnel, as well as any production records, were never filed by the previous owners, as was common with most small-scale mines of the era.
Workings on Golden Goose placer consist of shallow hydraulic cuts, and hand-built drift mine alongside the creek edge, production consisted of hydraulic sluicing operations in the early 1900s.
Local Gold is in the form of course flakes and fine dust, as eroded from the nearby lode outcroppings of the hillside.
- Primary Gold deposits are located in the terrace level deposits, nearly 150' feet above the water level. Highly mineralized clay and conglomerate alluvium present bright orange and red colors, indicative of Iron oxidation. Large boulders weighing in excess of three tons rest in the higher elevation gulch side cuts.
- Secondary Gold deposits are located in the creek-level gravels, with moderate concentrations expected on bedrock.
This mine features an excellent opportunity for the smaller-scale mining operation to utilize modern equipment for exponential Gold yields.
- The waterway on ranges from 1.5'ft-to-4'ft in width, and depth ranges between 1.5' ft-to-3.5'ft.
- Gold values are estimated at: 0.10-to-1.75 grams per yard, with greater values estimated on bedrock.
A small-to-mid-size high banking operation is recommended for this mine.
Parking and staging areas are located adjacent to the Creekside workings, near the shade of the pine forest.
Suitable for any vehicle type, with a level area for camper staging.
Located forty-five minutes from Helena, Montana.
Available to the beginning enthusiast up to an established mining company.
