The Gilliespie Mine was located in 1882, in the Black Canyon Mining district of Arizona.
Rich in Gold, Silver and Copper, the district was very active during the early 1900's up until the war act.
The Mine production was begun in the early between 1901-1905.
With little surviving documentation available, the Gillespie Mine was most likely worked by a smaller independent mining company.
Surviving records show an early production amount of $80,000.
The nearby mines in the area were producing near 2.10 opt(ounces per ton) in Gold and nearly 50 opt in Silver.
With 1882 Gold prices at $20.67 per ounce and silver prices at $1.15 per ounce, thousands of tons in ore were removed and processed.
The small mill-site suggests the material was crushed and smelted onsite.
Primary workings have been driven into a highly mineralized quartz vein, in a diorite host rock.
Two mine adits connect the underground stock-workings on dual levels of the hillside.
Concrete foundations of a hard-rock mill-site rest just outside of the upper level mine portal.
The upper level adit portal is accessible by a reinforced steel 4' by 4' tube entrance, one of the crossbars inside have been previously removed for access. The 7' by 4' adit drives nearly 500' into the decline area for level two.
The secondary and larger adit is located about 500' below the mill-site and staging area.
A stable mine face and 7' by 4' mine drift runs nearly 800' with multiple drifts into the incline area of the mine.
Primary and secondary mine spills hold profitable mineral potential with todays elevated precious metal values.
The main quartz vein is in place with significant underground reserves.
This mine is ready for the beginning enthusiasts up to a small mining company for development,
Featuring excellent access with most 2WD vehicles and all 4WD vehicles.
A parking and staging area is available for a camper or multiple vehicles near the mill and upper mine site.
