The Blacksmith Mine is a documented Gold producer in the Hassle/Park mining district of Broadwater County Montana.
This parcel is one of the northern sections reserved for the foreman and workers cabins, with the primary Blacksmith Shaft below on a separate parcel.
At one time, the Blacksmith group owned and operated over 120 acres of the surrounding hillside.
The area features epithermal outcroppings of rich deposits in previously untouched areas, an older workers cabin from the 1980's and excellent access.
With all original cabins removed, the hillside is ready for metal detecting and core sampling for the districts famous Gold deposits.
The Blacksmith group was most intensively worked in the 1930s. In the midst of the Great Depression high Gold prices spurred the development of a number of small "family" mines *.
Some additional production occurred as recently as 1940, though after the War act production halted entirley.*
Primary deposit is a large mineralized quartz outcropping, between 10' and 30' feet in width.
Quartz veins contain Galena, free-milling Gold, and auriferous pyrites.
Base metals such as Lead, Zinc and Iron are also present in various amounts.
The ore body of the Blacksmith deposits was over 30 wide with no reports of diminishment at lower levels.
Epithermal deposits on the parcel are extremely promising, as the primary mine shaft from the 1800's was driven on the same deposit, about 1/2 mile south west.
A majority of the lode deposits in the Park district are quartz veins in andesite which is intruded by quartz monzonite.
The ore consists chiefly of auriferous pyrite accompanied by arsenopyrite and galena; the principal value is in Gold. *.
Recorded lode Gold production of the Hassle district between 1864-1956 is 80,300 ounces of Gold.
Featuring excellent access for almost vehicle types and a secluded parking and staging area suitable for a midsize camper.
An excellent location for the beginning enthusiast, up to an established mining company.
